A day-filled adventure tour with breathtaking landscapes, "Apus" mountains, and turquoise, blue, green, and even reddish lagoons. Besides these attractions, you'll get to know the Andean flora and fauna, such as Alpacas, Vizcachas, and Condors.

The highlights of this tour are the seven lagoons located on the slopes of the Vilcanota Mountain Range, with the following names: Otorongo Macho, Otorongo Hembra, Puca Cocha, Alqa Cocha, Ccomer Cocha, Azul Cocha, and Pata Cocha.

Finally, in the community of Pacchanta, there's an incredible natural hot spring with medicinal properties; if you wish, you can also relax in these natural thermal waters.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Ausangate

Cusco - Pacchanta - 7 Lagoons of Ausangate

7 Lagoons at Ausangate Mountain

4:30 am We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco, then our transportation will take us to the community of Pacchanta, traveling approximately 3 hours – Pacchanta is a community located at 4,320 meters above sea level.

After a delicious breakfast in the Pacchanta community, we will begin the trek from Pacchanta to the 7 Lagoons. We'll walk for about 5 hours (round trip) and visit lagoons of different colors, characterized by their blue, turquoise, and green colors: Otorongo Macho, Otorongo Hembra, Puca Cocha, Alqa Cocha, Ccomer Cocha, Azul Cocha, and Pata Cocha.

During the visit to the 7 lagoons mentioned, we will also see the following mountains: Ausangate, Jampa, Pucapunta, Tinke, and the Qayangate Mountain Range. We will also observe some Andean flora and fauna. Keep in mind that the trek includes both steep and flat sections.

After visiting the 7 lagoons, we will return to the small community known as Pacchanta, and around 2:00 pm we will have lunch.

Finally, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the hot springs for about 40 minutes or explore the Pacchanta community on your own. The tourist transportation will take us back from Pacchanta to Cusco city, arriving back in Cusco around 6:30 pm.

The trek to the 7 Lagoons of Apu Ausangate begins in the Pacchanta Community, which is a 3.5-hour journey from Cusco at an altitude of 4,320 meters (14,173 feet). This picturesque village is located right at the foot of the majestic Ausangate Mountain!

Best Time to Visit

The best season to visit the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate is between April and November, during the dry months. Being located in the Vilcabamba mountain range, the weather is usually mild during most of the year, although conditions can vary due to the altitude.

Difficulty and Duration of the Trek

The trek to the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate has steep sections and flat areas. It takes about 5 hours (round trip) at a steady pace with some breaks. The trail can be slippery in parts, especially during the rainy season, so trekking boots are recommended for greater safety and stability.
