Immerse yourself in a unique adventure with this 7-day Manu tour, an extraordinary journey through one of the most biodiverse destinations on the planet. Our Manu Reserved Zone tour takes you from the majestic Andean heights to the lush depths of the Peruvian Amazon, offering an immersive experience that blends nature, culture, and conservation.
Tour Highlights:
This journey is more than just a tour—it’s a transformative expedition that will connect you with one of the world’s most pristine and surprising ecosystems, where every moment offers an opportunity to discover the magic of Peruvian biodiversity.
Our adventure begins bright and early at 5:00 AM as we depart Cusco and head toward the majestic Manu jungle. The journey starts with a scenic drive through the breathtaking Andes, with a breakfast stop in Huancarani, where we’ll also visit the ancient funerary towers of the pre-Inca Ninamarca culture.
Next, we continue to Paucartambo, a charming town celebrated for its vibrant folklore and traditions.
By midday, we enter the Manu National Park, one of the most protected natural areas in South America. Here, we descend a winding path into the enchanting cloud forest, a biodiverse haven teeming with life. This magical ecosystem is renowned for its vibrant birdlife, including the iconic Andean cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s national bird, whose calls echo through the forest alongside an array of unique and mesmerizing sounds.
Our day begins bright and early at 6:30 AM as we head to the Atalaya Port. Along the way, we’ll visit local farmers who cultivate a variety of tropical fruits, including the renowned coca plant.
Next, we embark on an exhilarating boat ride along the Madre de Dios River, a vital part of the Amazon basin. As we navigate the waters, we’ll have the chance to spot vibrant bird species and stop at natural hot springs, with hopes of encountering wildlife like monkeys or capybaras.
By mid-afternoon, around 3:00 PM, we’ll arrive at our lodge. The day culminates in a special nocturnal activity: a night walk to encounter fascinating creatures such as tarantulas, scorpions, and snakes that come to life after dark.
Today, we delve deeper into the jungle, trekking toward a hidden forest located in a strictly preserved area. Carrying our dinner with us, we make our way to the Papaya Eco Lodge. The night holds a unique opportunity: if luck is on our side, we might witness tapirs emerging to feed on the mineral-rich salt licks nearby—a truly extraordinary experience in the heart of the rainforest.
After a hearty breakfast, we leave behind the Madre de Dios ecosystem and embark on a journey along the clay-rich waters of the Manu River. A brief stop at the Limonal ranger station allows us to register our permits before continuing on a five-hour expedition into the heart of the Amazon.
This stretch of the river is breathtaking, particularly during the dry season, when the riverbanks come alive with nesting birds such as herons, eagles, and Orinoco geese. The beaches often host sunbathing caimans and turtles, and if luck is on our side, we might even spot a majestic jaguar.
In the afternoon, we’ll venture into the lush tropical forest along guided trails. Our evening stay will be at the Casa Matsiguenka, a rustic lodge managed by the local indigenous community. With comfortable facilities and a tranquil setting, it offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect deeply with the surrounding nature.
Our morning begins with a serene exploration of Salvador Lake aboard a floating platform, offering close encounters with the region's remarkable wildlife. One of the highlights is the chance to observe a family of giant otters, iconic residents of Manu that can consume 4 to 5 kilograms of fish daily.
The adventure continues as we explore the surrounding forest, with excellent opportunities to spot playful monkey groups. We’ll also visit Otorongo Lake, where a 20-meter-high observation tower provides a stunning panoramic view of the rainforest canopy—a perfect vantage point to fully appreciate the lush beauty of the Amazon.
Today is dedicated to immersing ourselves in the astounding biodiversity of the rainforest. Our guide will share insights into the tropical forest ecosystems and introduce us to medicinal plants traditionally used by indigenous groups. We'll search for the 13 monkey species that inhabit the area, with chances of spotting wild boars and vibrant poison dart frogs.
In the afternoon, we’ll navigate down the river, keeping a keen eye out for the majestic jaguar in its natural habitat. As the day ends, we’ll stop at the Hummingbird Lodge to witness a breathtaking Amazonian sunset, a perfect close to a day filled with wonder and discovery.
On our final day, we’ll depart early from the lodge and begin our journey back to Cusco, passing once more through the enchanting cloud forest. As we traverse this vibrant landscape, it’s a chance to reflect on the extraordinary expedition we've experienced in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth.
We’ll arrive in Cusco at approximately 8:30 PM, bringing our unforgettable adventure in the Amazon to a close.

We did the 4D, 3 nights Inca Trail with Jorge the first week of December 2024. The tour was incredible with beautiful views along the way and of course a worthwhile final destination. The Inca Trail team was great and our guide was very knowledgeable the only thing to note was that we wish that the guide matched our walking pace more. We were happy with the equipment borrowed/rented that were in fair condition. Food was overall very tasty and varied but the portions were a bit small for some. Very value for money, would recommend.

I recently completed the 4-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, and it was an absolutely flawless experience from start to finish. The communication with the company ITEP beforehand was outstanding—every question was answered promptly and clearly, which gave me a lot of confidence heading into the adventure. My guide Jorge Calderón was exceptional. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also extremely attentive to needs and individual pace. He tailored the experience to match my abilities, ensuring I felt comfortable and supported throughout. His explanations about the landscapes, history, and culture were fascinating, and he always had answers to my questions, no matter how detailed or specific. The entire trek felt incredibly safe, and I always knew what to expect thanks to the Jorge’s clear instructions and thorough preparation. The route itself was breathtaking, and every day brought new highlights—whether it was the stunning views of the Salkantay Pass, the lush cloud forest, or the incredible final approach to Machu Picchu. Even the occurring rain couldn't diminish that. These four days were incredible, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you’re considering this trek, I highly recommend it—you won’t be disappointed!
